Today,
I had to keep kicking the homesick monster in the head
but he kept rearing up to take another bite.
Holidays... he's much stronger this time of year, so sometimes he wins and I'm a miserable cow.
It's the children I worry about. They seem to be doing so well with their transplant here in a new country. Is that normal?
And then...
Miss Ky said, "You know what we haven't had in a long time?"
There it is, she ISN'T fine! She's missing some part of our traditional English lives! A Panto? Mince pies with double creme? Cadbury Advent calendars? Celebrations chocolate? School Nativity play or Christingle? Mounds and mounds of Christmas cards to carry to her school friends?
What could this child be reflecting on that has been ripped from her life in the past 6 months?
"Head lice".
Oh, that. Hmph. Yeah, forgot about those (recurring) traumatizing experiences...
I'm not so homesick now.
What's missing (but maybe not "missed") from your traditional celebration this year?

Hahaha! :-)
ReplyDeleteWishing you the very best of the season.
Quick, have a hat- and brush-sharing party so she can re-live the experience! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad they made a smooth transition - gotta love their resiliency!
May your family have a blessed Christmas season.
HAHAHAHA!!!! Well, that's one very bright side, right? Yeah, no head lice! ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat am I missing this fine holiday season? Sleep. Peace. Relaxation. My sanity.
Har, har, har.
Oh my goodness, cracked. me. up. We had our bout at Thanksgiving and Christmas last year. Good times. Hang in there. Such a year of changes for you. (((hugs)))
ReplyDeleteI think you can do without the lice this year. Definitely the silver lining there.
ReplyDeleteI have most of the decorations up and most of the presents purchased. I'm missing everything else, most notably...my Christmas spirit. :(
Cards have not gone out, no family pic has been snapped, haven't even purchased the ingredients for the goodies I like to make every year; we haven't had the chance yet to drive around and look at lights. Christmas is NEXT WEEK!!!!!!
Seriously, when did December sneak up on me?
Belated Christmas Greetings and a very Happy New Year to you.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope 2014 is a lot kinder - I am very optimistic.
Happy New Year - Eddie x
