Motherhood

"Is there a baby in your tummy?"

She's been obsessed about time lines. She's confused about the aging process.

"When I'm a baby again..." she says often.

I feel like the troll for crushing her dreams of once again being a tiny baby, or being able to wear the cute little baby outfits or shoes that have finally been leaving our house. It's very traumatic for her.

It's because of this that I'm not bothered by her question. It's not meant to be like those comments you can see coming from children that destroy your self-esteem.

"No sweetie, you were the last baby".

"Yes, 'cuz look..." as she lifts my shirt, "Your tummy is really fat".

I'm like the Roadrunner. Always naive enough to think this time I just may come out on top...

  1. We'll you're obviously just trying to do whatever you can to make yourself a softer hugger. The unappreciated sacrifices moms make...

  4. Just remember - even though you might be as naive as the roadrunner - you won't bounce back like he does after having an anvil dropped on your head!

  5. As my hubs says, "Grandmas need to be 'fluffy'."

  6. LOL. I need to remember to stay away from her...she'll think I'm having twins.

  7. She's going to keep you on your toes, that's for sure. Little stinker. :)

  8. And I quote from my own life:

Owen: "Mommy, you are fat. I think I might like you better skinny. You should exercise more."

Me: "um. thanks hon. I'll keep that in mind. Did I mention that YOU and your darling siblings are responsible for this fat?"

Aiden: "no mom, don't get skinny! I LIKE you all squishy and soft!"

    Me: "um. thanks hon."

*mommy departs to find large tub of ice cream to become more squishy*

  10. I've been working quite hard on my upper arms at the gym as I feel self conscious about looming bingo wings, and I felt I had really managed to firm them up. Little E (age 10) 'I just love your soft flabby arms Mummy'.
KIDS - they make us feel so good don't they!

  11. I prefer the term "fluffy". And the roadrunner WAS the one on top - it was that Wile E. Coyote character whose schemes failed time after time.

Just one of the many perks of living with an Asperger's kid with a frequent obsession about cartoon characters.

  13. Wow, what a twist to the ending of that one! It's okay, my four year old does the same to my belly.

  14. Love that picture. Just beautiful. I love how you post these gorgeous pics as you recount the subjects' not so stellar antics. LOL
It makes it really hard to say something nasty about her!!!

  16. The other day my neice and nephew came over to my house on their ripsticks (these CRAZY skateboard like things) and I wanted to try it. My nephew says, "Okay, but just so you know, the weight limit is 225 pounds." Little s*&t! ;)

What a beautiful photo! Little stinker.

  18. Been there, done that...except it was when I was teaching first grade and one of my little angels asked me during circle time if I was having a baby. I told her she'd be failing first grade (just kidding). I refer to my belly fat as my baby pillow...my baby will be 25 in September !
