A Cold, Hard Look At Myself

If news stories of our bitter freeze over here in the U.K. are reaching the U.S., believe them, they are not exaggerating.
If there are reports of YETI being seen in Norfolk,
don't lose sleep, it's just me.

I refuse to shave my legs while shivering.

You would think that a country as old as England could come up with a better way to heat houses than oil-fueled radiators. Maybe it's "greener", I don't know or care. I personally would like to leave a footprint when I'm gone-- one's got to be remembered for something, right?
As it is, I am burning more oil than the fires of the Gulf War.

The husband hasn't remarked on the legs yet. I don't think he's had much of an opportunity with me bundled in flannel and a talking min-beast between us 8 out of 7 nights (yes, that often).

There's an incredible freedom to be being furry and I feel I am helping to enforce the belief in my daughter that there is more to a person than cosmetics...

And then she brings me this:

 "It's You." She says.

I wonder if there are any gritters on the roads. I may need to make a quick run to Tesco for depilatories.

The LDS Living website is emailing me daily with  "12 Days of Christmas" tips.

Day One was "Get Organized"... Days Two, Three and Four are now lost on me because I'm getting organized. This isn't as fun or as helpful as I expected.

How are you doing with your plans?

  1. Being cold is horrible. Miss Ky's artistic abilities will improve those kinds of drawings are good for a laugh.
Plans? I'm trying to keep it low key and just enjoy the family.

  3. We are done already. We celebrate our Christmas over Thanksgiving, because I am the GOOD grandma, and let the kids go to the other side of the family on THE day! LOL! Last year, I took the tree down before the kids got to the interstate, but I am enjoying it so much more this year, that it is still up.

I hate being cold. I don't shave my legs very often anymore. That is one of the perks for getting old...the hair comes as a mustache or goat hairs on the chin!

    Love the picture!

  4. How am I doing? Well, let's see. I haven't bought a single gift yet. We don't have our tree or any other decorations up yet. I have only the very vaguest and haziest of ideas of what I am going to get as gifts for a few of those I will buy for this year, and the rest I haven't a clue. Yep, I'm right on schedule! HA! :D

We do have the decorations up at work, so that's nice. I don't spend time worrying about it. It will all get done eventually. Or it won't and a couple of things will go by the wayside. Either way life will go on.

I think Ky made a lovely picture of you. It's nice that you have three eyes--the better to see with and all that. ;)

Wishing you much joy for the holidays, J. Hugs to you.

  6. You're too cold to get organized. I'd say you are excused from those activities.

  7. and then that feeling when you've shaved, and there's stubble and then you get goosebumps and it actually HURTS to shiver? HATE that! be fuzzy! be free!

i can't think about christmas. i'm in the middle of moving and i'm currently homeless and i'm totally freaking out over it. gah! (yeah, i've been in the temp living hotel for a week but i should have a house by now!) *runs in circles, clutching head*

so christmas needs to just hold its horses until i'm ready. that'll totally happen, right??

    good luck staying warm!

  8. I HATE being cold! Luckily, I have awesome natural gas heat so it's all good. It's been unseasonably cold around these parts too. And foggy. And gray. Good thing there are festive lights to penetrate all that gloom!

I hope you can find some way to get toasty and warm!

  10. I rarely shave my legs, even in the summer time. When I do, my husband isn't quite sure what to think.
My plans are pretty much nonexistent. Saves me the trouble of feeling bad that I didn't get things accomplished.

I DO hope to get a purse sewn this week for my moms birthday which was today. I lied to her on the phone tonight and said it was almost done. What a daughter eh'?

  11. I am right there with you about the cold . . . I have been putting off shaving my legs until I can shower without shivering!

  12. LOL! I keep my legs shaved in case I die! I don't want the cute paramedics to see me all hairy!

  13. Ha ha! Why is there always 12 days of Christmas? Why not 10, a nice round number? And why is the Living Scriptures giving out advice about getting organized. So strange. Too funny.

  14. I love being furry in winter - those hairs keep my legs warm!

  15. Bwahahaha! I don't shave but three or four times during the winter. It's wonderful. I have to get out the Wahl shaver to pre-shave in spring.

    TMI, huh?

  16. Oh, this post made me howl with laughter. Yes, I'm sorry, but you see, I'm no longer in the throes of mothering. Thank. God.

And, NO ONE can actually shave their legs while shivering. I mean, you'd be there forever, right? It grows bad the second you shiver... so what's the point?

  17. Somehow being on Grumpy Old Ken's blog has led me to yours. I have been laughing out loud through your posts and getting all caught up! Especially love this one! All the best. Onward thru the posts...I'm only a couple months back now.
