I have to vent. Here's another political statement from me... even though I promised in the beginning to steer clear of this (I'm not running for President, what do I care if I go back on my word?).
It's about this comment made by Michelle Obama:
"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I am really proud of my country. And not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change. I have been desperate to see our country moving in that direction...”
Doesn't this just chafe your hide?
All Things British moment: Not to be mistaken for Chuff, which in England is a good thing. "I won tickets to a Norwich game, I am really chuffed about it!"
I am not chaffed that she said it, but that it is getting so much media coverage.Holy cow people.
As a mom, how many times have you said, "My kids are really driving me crazy!"
Am I to take that to mean your children have never brought you any joy and that you are seriously close to literally being institutionalized?
How about the new mom that says, "We haven't slept in six weeks!"
Really? Why aren't you dead? Why haven't you been declared insane?
I think we understand and accept her statement to mean:
"I have only slept in increments since the baby was born".
Anybody who has followed Barack Obama's political career has probably figured out by now that he has an intelligent wife with a sarcastic sense of humor. While campaigning, she has to be aware of the things she says and how they look in print-- therefore, she's toned down her comments. I think it's sad.
How many blogs do you visit daily BECAUSE the writer is sarcastic? How many links in your side bar are to a blog that could be re-titled "Everything's Wonderful In Happy Happy Land"?
I would rather see a potential First Lady (or maybe even a potential president) with a dry or sarcastic sense of humor than one that tells me everything I want to hear. The latter frightens me. I'm afraid the true colors would come out after it was too late to change my vote.
Believe it or not, I am NOT on the Obama campaign wagon, but I am a Mom and I have said and done some really stupid things in my term as Mommy.
I am just really thankful the media hasn't covered any of them.
I am just really thankful the media hasn't covered any of them.

Yeah, I hear ya. I understand that the guy is running for president and trying to get votes, but let us NOT make empty promises. Please? We are all adults.
ReplyDeleteIt would be great if a pres could solve world hunger and acheive world peace, but that is not likely. Nor is it likely that one will solve the medical crisis, fix the school systems, keep us away from a recession, and stop global warming as Obama has said he would.
And can I just add that I don't think few presidents have had such a tough presidency as Bush. You may not agree with all he has done, but you HAVE to give the guy some credit. First, there was 9/11, then there was Katrina, then the tsunami (which I realize did not hit us, but affected us just too), the economy (in part because of 9/11), and everything else. Just crazy.
Ok. I'll shut up now. :)
You talk all you want Kathryn-- it saves me from clicking on your blog three, four times a day :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd I'd vote for Bush again!
I'm with you Kathryn! So many people bad mouth Bush, but I have to say that I would not feel as comfortable in my government if Al Gore were our President and we went through the exact same situations that Bush has been put through. I'm not confident that he could have handled them as well as Bush has handled them and himself. He has done extremely well, in my opinion, in situations way beyond his control and I think he has handled them better than anyone else we could have had in office during those times.
ReplyDeleteI am not one to vote along party lines. I tend to vote for the person I think will do the better job no matter what party they are for. I also tend to cast my vote for the person I "feel" I can trust to run our country no matter the circumstances. In this election year, I am torn. I haven't made up my mind. I've been reading about the issues and how everyone stands, but sadly, I know it all looks good on paper. Each of their plans looks great. On Paper.
Sorry this is so long - I think I have just found a topic to blog about. :-)
ah-freakin-men!!!
ReplyDeleteawesome,well put post!!
xoxo
Great post. I certainly agree about being glad the media doesn't capture my every word and deed. Still, does this remind you a little of class president elections in middle school?
ReplyDeleteSuddenly, the guy (or gal) who could be running our country is trying to win the popularity contest. Yes, the school days come to mind.
ReplyDeleteI am certain that things happen for a reason. Bush got the Office because he could handle the tasks to come. I don't know that AlBore...uh, Al Gore would have done half the job with a quarter of the grace. Public speaking being the downfall, Bush has done a masterful job of balancing the world on his shoulders. Shame on the new candidates who kick him in the gut.
But then, how is McCain any different from Mrs. Clinton or Mr. Obama? The only difference I see among them is the campaign sticker on their car.
I like your blog as well, and I hope you don't mind if I lurk around a while. Thanks for visiting me.
Honored to have you lurking around Chelf, welcome.
