Today's your Birthday...

----beeep----
(real high-pitched, sing-song voice)
"Hiya!
J the Grockle? I'm calling to RSVP for A1's birthday sleepover. Obnoxious Hyperactive Son would love to come, and I am so thrilled you invited him--especially after that little incident last year at the farm when he nearly bit his tongue off and you had to sit with him as he choked in his own blood (instead of seeing your precious little boy pet the farm animals). Oh, and don't worry about the incident at H's party, Obnoxious seems to be getting a little more coordinated, so I highly doubt that he will trip and crack his head at your party. One last thing though, he is having issues with bedwetting. It seems to be only happening when he drinks anytime after noon and especially with fizzy drinks. Could you please limit his drinking without the other kids knowing--I don't want him to get embarrassed. Thank you for inviting him. He loves A1-- probably because A1 is just about the kindest child anyone could ever meet.
(real high pitch here-- the voice goes waaaay up on good byes--even the men do it) Biyeee!"
----beeeeeeeep---------

This post style was brought to you (by the ingenious Painted Maypole) in the style of an answering machine message. Check out her Blog for more great Monday posts ideas.

And Happy Birthday, to my "Sweet, sweet Petunia" (a silly name we gave him as a wee guy-- it's from Veggie Tales). The boy who always runs back to give Mum an extra hug. The boy who loves his sister dearly. The boy who slipped in shyly as I was weeding my way through the nightmare face-lift on the ol' Mac, to ask if I was the one who picked out the craft gift for him. "I really like doing crafts and coloring and stuff", he said in his soft voice with his dimpled grin.

This blog's disclaimer: Obnoxious child really isn't obnoxious, but how funny would this message be if I said "Perfectly Friendly, although accident-proned Son loved by A1"?

  1. Oh, Happy B-day. SD's is coming up soon, too. My mother called me Petunia (from the books with the goose) as a kid, too.

Bedwetting? Umm. That's not good. And, leaving this all in a msg where everyone can hear? Prob. not the best idea.

  3. Happy Birthday. :) Sounds like a normal boy to me. Wait - I was the one who had all those mishaps. My boys are not accident prone. He still sounds like a normal boy. What's that saying - Scars are tattoos with better stories? Yeah. :D

that was a hilarious post!! and...the bedwetting thing...that's why i've yet to allow sleepovers at my house...that and, with 5 kids living here already, i'd have to put the guests either, on the roof or in the pool...

  5. funny. and yes, exaggerating for humor is allowed. No one actually called about the stuff in my front lawn. although they could have, because it was all there. With way more stuff in the back yard. and a freezer in the neighbor's garage, because leaving that in the driveway was going just a bit too far, even for us.

  11. On the lurking...

If you put a sitemeter(tm) on your site, it will tell you the IP address of people who visit and their geographic location. Like I know where you are (even if I hadn't read your site) and that you had three visits today (thanks!) It doesn't appear to register some readers and RSS feeds though.

The bad part about it is that if you have the button on your site, then anyone can look at your stats. I personally think it would be rude to look at other people's stats, so I don't. But I realized today that my MIL (looooong story) has been looking at my stats so I'm thinking of taking it down. But that is a really long story.

  12. Hey, I popped over when I saw your comments on my blog. It's nice to meet you! Did you mean you know a great scrapping event in New Mexico when you say NM? I'm actually thinking of having a bloggy-friends scrap weekend somewhere and I'm just starting to look around. So how long have you been in England and do you like it? When does summer come over where you are?

  13. Wait - I thought I knew what you were talking about, but I don't. What's MM and PM?

Oh - Monday Mission. I'm assuming there's info back on your site, so I'm going to go look now.

  15. Happy Birthday Cutie Pie!!

And I agree with cutting the drinks off early. My kids can't have any more tequila after 7pm. Even if they really want it.
