Colin Firth, Where Are You?

I'm packing for my "In Search of Mr. Darcy" trip.
Yes, it's only a two-day trip, but I must be prepared for any weather and any off-chance that I may run into Colin Firth. Yes, it's not for another couple of weeks, but I need to be prepared.

We'll be touring Jane's home-- and this time I will not have to plead my way in as they are closing, so I will have time to savor the tour.

Part of my itinerary says this:

"A visit to the Jane Austen experience in Bath" "Guide walk around Jane Austen's Bath. A setting for many of her novels".

I have the information stuck to the front of the fridge -- which means Colin Firth is watching me every time I sneak into the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream. He has that look like he's judging me for doing it, but it doesn't stop me. I can still picture him very clearly emerging from his dip in the lake and this judgemental look means nothing...
It also means my family is reminded every day that I am going somewhere all by myself soon.

Tonight at dinner after Miss Ky made a big production about wanting milk to drink as well as not liking the food on her plate and the three boys were scolded for the umpteenth time (for what I can't remember), I was at the limit of my witching hour (Dad's working nights again).

It was at THAT moment, the moment they all could end up duct taped to the front door until their dad came home that the silly 11 year-old mentioned my upcoming trip.

"Where you'll be able to walk around Jane Austen's amazing bath", he flourished with pomposity and flair.

For a few short seconds I stared at him in disbelief.
I couldn't help it. I tried.
I covered my face with my hands, but the laughter rolled out over my fingertips and was soon followed by the tears when I couldn't stop laughing. I realized that my kid has seriously been thinking I was going to get a grand tour of some dead person's bathroom.

It really makes me appreciate the fact that he asked if he could go with me when the trip was first booked. He must really like me to want to go tour people's toilets for a weekend.

  5. Oh, priceless - out of the mouths of babes, eh? We used (until we bred too many children) to rent a cottage every Easter for a week around various parts of the UK, one of which was in Bath - naturally, we just had to do the tour - BUT, this was LONG before this darling man ever graced our screens. Ahhhhh, I envy you! Enjoy..

  6. And Elizabeth did not even blush!

Bath is beautiful. I went to university there. I am sure that you will enjoy it.

  7. Now that would be a great trip by oneself. Sigh, someday.
Though it seemed that when my stepson was younger all he wanted to do was tour the baths of every place we went into.

  9. Mo says you must get a cinnamon bun from Sally Lunn's in Bath. Apparently they are not called cinnamon buns there, and I have no idea what Sally Lunn's is.

I have an incredible urge to start speaking in my best Pride and Prejudice accent now.

Forget Brighton, Kitty. I want to go to Baaaaaaath!

  11. A whole weekend away?? Oh, how I envy you! Enjoy! fun to catch up!!! I read more often than I comment, btw. Up until now, when I got my little netbook, I was always on some lame, half dead computer that luckily allowed me to read, at its own rate, but I usually ran into too many issues trying to post comments.

  12. Hello there! Getting a good chuckle in the morning is a great way to start the day..

Now as far as bath..When I was younger, I always thought it strange when people would say they were going to a baby shower or a bridal shower...Why couldn't I come because I loved baths..and I wondered how all those women could fit..AND please tell me they wore clothes. That would be hard tho.:0)

Hope you are doing well. Sounds so much fun..Mammas time off..you go girl.

I envy the break, and the trip. Take lots of pictures so we can share in your adventure!

And don't you love how literal kids are?

  18. Oh that was funny! I can just hear the 11 year old's cheeky British accent!

I can't remember a time when I didn't like the food that was on my plate. And when I was still a very young and precocious child urging my poor twin brother into all kinds of mischief with me, my mother did actually tie us to our cribs because we refused to stay in them. Duct tape is so much more new millennium!
