Hi, my name is Hostage and I'm a thriftoholic.
Today I did two rounds of the car boot because I still had coins in my pocket. That's after I found four more books to add to my tower of will-never-be-read-in-my-lifetime of books.
I also managed to make sure Miss Ky has a new baby doll. It's an Ariel. I collect Little Mermaid/Ariel and have done since 1995. You know, for the one day when I would have a girl. And then I did. And she loves Cinderella and Snow White.
Miss Ky needed a new Cinderella mug for hot chocolate. Since I could also get two Winnie-the-Pooh mugs for only a few pence more, they came home too. I'll have to sneak them into the cabinet and hope Hubby doesn't notice them for a while.
I am the proud new owner of 6 tomato and 4 strawberry plants. I'm going to place them next to all of the other plants I will surely kill.
With a house full of cupcakes, I bought a chocolate muffin to bring home. I hope someone eats it because muffins are really fattening.
When I came home to my quiet house that needed cleaning, I instead put another bid on the Simon Lappin shirt (oh somebody PLEASE stop me). I'm only mentioning it because even though it SO doesn't fall into the thrift category, it does fall into the things-I-don't-need category.
At 10.23pm I was chatting online with a person about adopting their cat. This morning, the cat was off of the adoption site so someone crazier than me made an impulsive decision.
In two months the other personality will take over again and I will be screeching about the house being so cluttered. So, most of the things I have collected will be gathered up and taken to a charity shop...
where I will see their book shelf and have a rummage through it.
I need help.

I will pray for you!! Starting right now. HA!
ReplyDeleteeBay is what sucks me in! And online sales LOL

You're stimulating the economy. This is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteSince I got rid of 4000 pounds of stuff and moved with only a few sentimental objects, photos and a few books and our clothes, I haven't felt the need to buy stuff.
Of course, ongoing unemployment may have something to do with that.
I wonder if I'll return to conspicuous consumption once I get a job?
I loved this. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, you need help. Don't we all?
Hugs/ Jo.
Then we all need help. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the manic, get rid of everything phase. I think Jacob's going to have a breakdown. He's honestly not able to cope with getting rid of anything--but I might play with it again!
We got a tax refund this year. Yes!! We can finally have a savings account. Then we stopped by the furniture store and then Walmart a couple of dozen times. The savings account? It's gone.
ReplyDeleteHa, I can relate to the high stacks of books that need to be read.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm . . . this sounds like a new version of "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." : D
ReplyDeleteI thought I would see a dip in book acquisitions when my computer went down. Apparently I cleverly adapted and found other computers ready and waiting to take my online scrounging/order for vintage gems. Stacked as they are, I DO intend to read them all . . . someday.
Take heart, you are not alone . . . but that doesn't excuse it one bit. ; D
p.s.
Today I proclaim a non-buying day! (Hey, it just happens to correspond with Earth Day -- convenient.) We'll see how successful I am, with this computer in my lap . . .
Haha! That sounds much like me today. Which is why I haven't gone to the store yet and why I am attempting to stay away from the computer. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm in the screeching about the clutter stage here at the moment. HA! Hey maybe you could come to my house and collect a few things to take to your house and my clutter problem won't be so bad!! ;)
ReplyDeleteFunny post! Thanks for the laugh.
I will pray for you seriously...money saving tips
ReplyDeleteah jeri: you speak the truth with such clarity! ;)
ReplyDeletei think that living in an apartment has only ONE good thing about it: i don't really collect nick-nacks and things b/c i know that i have no place for them and there is no real reason for me to store them for the "future time of decorating" --- it has kept me from over-indulging on halloween decorations (my hubby is greatful...)
but i'm getting antsy on painting walls right now....i really, really want to --- it must be the nesting hormones in me :)
You crack me up! You're in good company. I do the same things. We really need and want to pare things down, we just haven't really started yet. We're still in the "thinking about it" stage. =)
ReplyDeleteSee? You're surrounding yourself with things which make you feel like you're secure, like you BELONG. That's what it is! The need to belong.
ReplyDeleteoh my gosh.
ReplyDeletea) I no longer feel like such a weirdo.
I go to the bookstore every weekend and buy books that I will never read, but it makes me feel so good to have them...just to hold them
b) you have the best commenters, ever.
c) that is all for now. :=)
