Material Things

Buying clothes for Miss Ky is like my own personal crack. I don't know how it happened, not being a particularly girly-girl myself, but my daughter is now the possessor of all things blingy.

Just yesterday we took the hubby into the city to get him something to wear that wasn't around with The Breakfast Club came out.
It was a frightening venture since his clothes shopping would occur on the second floor of the cutest girl clothes store in the country.

"No matter what I say, Miss Ky does NOT need clothes. DO NOT let me buy her clothes."

A lot of good he is. As soon as we parked he announced he needed to go find a toilet.

(I know that sounds crass to my Yank friends, but Americans sound a little silly asking for a bathroom while shopping. "I'm sorry Sir, you'll have to wait until you get to your home to take a bath".)

The scent of the sequined tops had already skipped into my nostrils and I zombie-replied,

"Yougoonthen,I'llwaitinthegirlsection..."

Fool.

When he joined us I already had a need of a forklift.

So,

Princess World-Revolves-Around-Her has a new wardrobe.
One that will never be allowed in school, since they are able to paint their bodies without any supervisor noticing; since they come home with face paint 2 out of 3 days; because they exchange clothing with their friends...

Tonight,
the girl in the most adorable matching ensemble EVAH decided to get into the purple paint while I chopped onions for dinner.

I never learn. I wonder if there's a 12-step program for stupidity.

  1. sigh. You're not the first one to fall prey to the girls dept. I'm a bit relieved I have boys now. Ashley is passed the adorable little girl clothing stage, and Haley skipped right over it. I still walk past the girls dept. and drool though. Can't help stopping on occasion and picking something up and squealing.

  2. I actually miss shopping for my daughter, but the outfits i would pick out for her now would be viewed with undisguised disdain.

  3. Ha! Yes! You need that 12 step program and pronto!! But who...I mean who can resist bling? Especially in little girls clothing?? I couldn't with my granddaughters...all four of them. I still get crazy. Sheesh!!
    Hugs and good luck

  4. I've whined and moaned about having little boys for the past 13 years, but I can clearly see that it's been a blessing in disguise. I'd be right there with you otherwise.

  5. If there were a 12 step program for stupidity I'd have already found it...

  6. ps my daughter is 38 and I still like to buy her stuff.
So umm I hate to tell you this but it's a life long deal that you never outgrow. Course as she gets older she won't get paint on stuff.

  7. Too funny! Why do they always pull out the paints when they're wearing the really cute stuff?! I've noticed the same phenomenon!

  8. Well, I often ask my wife why my boys have more outfits in their closet than I have ever owned in my life. You are not alone.

  9. Yeah, welcome to my 4 girls, 1 boy nightmare. I like to call it--the thrill of the frill. But--it did get better over time. By the 3rd daughter I felt it waning but the other day some minion overtook my body and I bought girl #4 an entire outfit on--including boots at Gymboree. Please. Save. Me.

As for the 12 step program--its called "Getting My Credit Card Bill 12 Times A Year..

  10. Ah...the girl's an artist. There's no stopping art. Anyway, I bet she looks good in purple too.

  11. Twelve step program? Woman, you need a full-on Intervention! But you know those rehab things never work (just ask Amy Winehouse and Lindsay Lohan!). Just try to "keep it in the closet" and you'll be fine.

    Yuk, yuk.

PS: Princess World-Revolves-Around-Her is definitely a cutie tho. How could you resist?

  12. LOL. I'm envious. One of the first complete sentences my daughter said was "If I'm wearing the clothes, why are you picking them out?" Gah.

  13. It's still so much fun, isn't it? I miss when I used to spend time and money on Julianna's clothes. Of course, she was never one to mess them up, that might have tempered my enthusiasm. :)

  14. I realised I had not commented in forever, but you are so popular I think I can be forgiven :P

I love to shop for my niece, unfortunately her mom and i don't have the same style for her hehe - she's almost 3!

I do love to shop. Ex: lost my wallet Monday, and by the evening I had gotten my new Puma one <3

Ms Ky will def be fashionable ;)

  15. I have a friend who had 2 boys, then a girl, and it is exactly the same for her, she says she can't help herself buying clothes for her daughter. And she buys this really gorgeous stuff for her and her daughter is quite blase about it, rejects things even.

  16. Hello, my name is Robyn, and I too am addicted to buying girl clothes, even princess dresses.

  17. I LOVE shopping for my granddaughter...it is an addiction and I hope no one ever tries to do an intervention...it wouldn't be pretty. And I hope you are going to post pictures of her with the sequins, sparkles and purple paint. You ARE going to miss these days, I promise !

  18. She looks awfully cute in them though. I get this. I can actually go crazy for my boys too, in the right store.

  19. It's so easy to buy girls clothing b/c they are so darn cute and adorable - nothing that fun for boys to wear!

  20. I had two sons and now have twin granddaughters. What a hoot to take them shopping! Our rule is there can be no writing on the butt. One time they were looking for winter pants and the only thing they found that they liked was gauzy butterfly wings. Grandma bought them, of course. "Just this once, girls."
