Taking Pleasure in Punishing My Kids

I'm a mean Mom.

I take away electronics.

I feel justified in doing so when said electronics seems to add to the antagonism and aggression that seems to run rampant in our home during down time.

I don't give a flying flip if kid did save up for a year just to buy his very own iPod Touch-- it's mine when you start biting everybody's head off.

This is what occurs after the initial shock (and withdrawal symptoms) subside...

Playing Wii Karaoke

After Wii Karaoke, some Wii fit on the board. See the two Wii controllers?

Maybe a little XBox action when that's over...Looks like Halo is the game in queue

XBox isn't complete without the Kinect...

Nobody make any sudden movements! That's a Shrink-ray gun by his feet!

Surely you know who this is?

Oh alright. Maybe this helps?

For Pete's sake, it's Simon Lappin!

Don't tell the kids that their sudden burst of creativity may have just nailed the lid shut on the electronic coffin.

  3. Those were some pretty impressive clay creations! Although I have to say that Simon Lappin is way cuter in person!

  4. Your kids and mine have a lot in common. Yours are very talented.

About three times a year we have electronics free weeks. The kids grow less cranky and become more creative. It rocks.

  5. Love it!! Boredom really does cause creativity, your smart to limit the techno stuff. But I think that it's funny they MADE techno stuff. They'll expand. So did you make the soccer player?

  6. When my kids were younger, I always threatened to throw the TV (one of 5) in the trash. Once I finally threw one into the trash, they became amazingly alert to my words... I'm all for adding the nails to the electronic coffin now that my kids are gone. No, wait. That is such a lie. I can't live without my puter. Well, maybe I could. I just don't want to. I must admit that when mine were little it wasn't nearly as bad as it is these days. I might implode over it were it today. So, I salute you for your bravery as a Mom....

  7. Good for you! I have been gradually doing the same thing for a while. I hate electronic toys, but I'm not the only parent around here. *sigh*

  10. I was actually going to say Simon Lamone! You are quite the artist. Those little fellas look exactly like the Despicable Me little dudes.

  11. i find things to be so much better, overall, when the electronics are off, too. i tend to over indulge MQs desire to use them, but actually find the days when she is completely banned to usually be the most pleasant.

i watched despicable me for the first time, yesterday (in and enjoyable sharing of electronics time) and thought it was quite good.
