Ch ch ch changes

This year we're having a kid tree.

Boooo to me, trying to impress people with House Beautiful-worthy trees and color-coordinated decorations. We're changing. This year it's just kids enjoying Christmas--the way it should be when they're young. I don't know how I became so un-fun, but hopefully I can make up for it.

The girl is wide-eyed and enjoying all of our moving ornaments for the first time. Her dad is changing our UK lights to accommodate our US Darth Vader, skating Pooh and Brenda Lee singing "Rockin' Around, the Christmas Tree..." it's magical.

You can predict what she will say, this little princess of ours...

"I want to be a boy"

(what, you didn't see that coming?)

Dad: "Oh, I don't want you to be a boy, you make such a pretty little girl"

"I'm stuffed being a girl"
(stuffed?)

"Everything gets in my eyes"

Dad: "Oh, are we going to have to cut your hair off?"

"Yes. I will be bald like a fish".

Ahhh, the sounds of the holidays...

  2. Totally didn't see that coming. NOt sure I follow her mode of thinking. YOu can tell her that being a boy is overrated...not that I know, I just have 4 boys. Enjoy the kid Christmas...totally the best kind!

  3. hahahaha- I did the same thing this year... and you should just see how pretty Olivia made our tree. It is taking all of my self control not to redecorate it!!

And you must not cut Miss. Ky's gorgeous hair ... she'll be thankful for it eventually! ha. funny kid :)

  4. What a cutie-pie. I think your kid-Christmas is a fabulous idea. We have one of those every year and it's always wonderful. Fingers crossed this years will be just as great!

  5. I think there are times in every girls life she wishes she were a boy instead of a girl. I remember when I realized they could relieve themselves standing up. Ya....I wanted to be a boy then.

  6. Oh she is cute.

I solved the problem of kids vs. mom tree by having 2 trees (or 4)...

  7. I still have hair getting in my face and in my way - it's a never-ending struggle.

Don't tell her that, though - let her hold onto her innocent thought that short hair remains short!

I let the grandkids help decorate our tree, I can see how tall they are because all of the ornaments are lined up, according to height!

I love it! And for the record, J, I don't think there has ever been a moment when you were un-fun.

  11. Sbe's so adorable. If she gets the idea to cut all her hair off on her own instead of waiting for you guys to do it, I would kill him. ;)

  12. She is adorable!! Even when she is "stuffed"!! Ha!! And I am glad she is enjoying the tree!
I have a special garland that I put the "kids" ornaments on...it hangs in the dining room. I have no littles around anymore but my son gets a kick out of seeing the ornies that he grew up with!!

You rock Jeri. I need to learn to relax a bit on so many levels.

  14. kid trees rock. i've given up on having a pretty tree & instead i have a happy tree that's well-lit. that's worth something, right?
bald like a fish... hmm... but fish are smooth & that darn hair will grow out so fast & before you know it, it's got your head stuck to your pillow case when you wake up in the morning. i tried it myself, though i probably wasn't shooting for the fishy look.
