How about the crazed search I went on to find a Koo Koo Choo Choo that I wouldn't let the family play with for fear of breaking it since it's considered "antique" now?

Well this year is the worse.
Not because of what I may have spent (not telling), but because I spent it and then hid the purchase. I have never hidden purchases before.
I am slipping down a very deceitful toy-slope my friends.
Shhhh, I'll show you.
Under my desk, in the dark corner...
See it there in the back?
Here, I'll pull it out a little.
Opening the box...

ooooh, ahhhh.
Smell that smell?

That's the 70's my friends.
My mom heard my confession (I think I phoned her still in the shopping-drunken stupor of my paypal transaction).
She's not telling Hubby and look!
She even mailed me the clothes that she sewed for the originals (can't get fabric like that just anywhere!).
Is there a 12-Step program for toyaholics?
What are YOU hiding these days?

| seeing them standing in my scrapbook room like that suddenly gives the cherished dolls from my childhood a very creepy feel. |
Get back in the box girls, Hubby's coming!
Addendum: I just did a search for "bought" on my blog and found some "interesting" blog posts... a lot of them. Apparently I talk a lot about "bought"ing, but when trying to remember what I just had to have last year, came up blank. Oh dear...

Oh, you ARE a bad girl!
ReplyDeleteIf I were going to buy MY favorite doll from childhood (the 60s), this would be it: http://reviews.ebay.com/IDEAL-apos-S-VINTAGE-THUMBELINA-DOLLS_W0QQugidZ10000000000850089
$200 naked. Not gonna happen...but thanks for letting me stroll down memory lane a bit.
Rotten little sister me cut Velvet's hair in half, and she ended up with a nice (I thought, my sister did not) bob. It was really a bummer when you turned the knob on her back too far and all her hair disappeared in the hole on top of her head...
ReplyDeleteI have all my Fisher Price Little People sets from when I was a kid. The old choking hazard kind. Most of them still have the original box. They are sealed in bags and boxes in the basement. I saved them for my girls to play with when they were growing up, and when I found out how much they were 'worth' they stayed hidden. I found other sets at yard sales and let the girls play with those. Isn't that weird? Steve is going to get rid of them someday and I probably won't notice for years. Maybe they have been gone for years. I better go check.
You're just a kid at heart, J. That's a good thing. :D
ReplyDeleteGoing on a little tangent here. Do you see where Ohio Art is located (there on the bottom of the Koo Koo Choo Choo picture). That's right, Bryan, Ohio. That's where I live.
:-) Small world, don't you think?
Ohio Art is still here and going strong. (I don't think they make the Koo Koo Choo Choos anymore though.)
I LOVED my Chrissie doll! Except, I think mine was a baby, but the hair was the coolest thing.
ReplyDeleteYour obsession is awesome. That dollhouse is amazing.
i still have my Mandy doll
ReplyDeleteLOL you're adorable. so cute that your mom had the clothes to send over too =) i guess the kids found you after being missing? ;) under the desk playing!
ReplyDeleteI never had one of those. Don't really remember them. I had a walking doll though. I guess they're still making those.
ReplyDeleteThey have a vintage line of toys at Target, I saw a music box record player there that I remember fondly from my childhood. I want it SOOOOOO Badly!! I even took a pic of it on my cell. I totally plan on posting about it.
OMG, you've stolen my life! I have dolls and doll houses stashed in various places and Betsy McCall cutout paper dolls from the 50's...there is no 12 step program, I am sorry to tell you...well there may be one, but its to late for the likes of us my girl! Ah, I can smell the 70's from here...
ReplyDeleteSandi
Too funny. I can relate. A few years ago, we bought our son one of those old electric football games with lots of the hand painted figures. I, I mean, he enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun. These are unfamiliar to me. I was too old for dolls in the 70's and my kids didn't exist yet so they're foreign to me.. but I so appreciate the nostalgic kick you're feeling.
ReplyDeleteI'm still holding out for the Dr. Doolittle "Push Me-Pull You!" :(
ReplyDeleteI still have my Velvet doll. Stil in the purple dress she came with!! Think a shoe is missing tho!! :o( Have a good day!!
ReplyDeleteLove the dolls!!!! They don't look scary to me!! But I make dolls. Ha!

ReplyDeletejust read your blog for the first time, nice blog. it sounds familiar. i have no children and about 100 dolls. i still buy games from the 70's because they are made in the usa. but i was born before that... 1955.but about once a year i get the dolls out and redress them. ha! ha! you remind me a lot of my neice. she is the same sign as you. glad to see you take time out to still have fun.
ReplyDeleteYour secret is safe with me. But now I'm wondering if my Mom still has my dolls!
ReplyDeleteAnd because I don't have any girls, is it wrong if I buy a dollhouse for myself this Christmas?
Hey - I'm still hoarding the Madame Alexander dolls I bought at an estate sale, promising hubby I could sell them for a profit. Apparently, I lied. I've wanted them my entire life, lol. So, ummmm... yes, I'm with you on this one.
ReplyDelete;-)
You know, I understand COMPLETELY what you mean by 'That 70s smell.'
ReplyDeleteMy grandma's closets had that smell...
