Now We're Talkin!

I have an idea...

a contest of sorts....

only, I'm the winner of it.

See this?
Remember how last time I sat here wishing a meteor would hit my house while all of you were lining up with your shiny Twilight tickets? Envy is an ugly emotion.

Yeah, well not this time peeps.

I don't care if it's nearly Turkey Day,
I don't care if traveling just before Christmas sucks
the precious funds from the kids' stocking loot,

I'M NOT MISSING THIS ONE.

So here's the contest:

Convince me why I should fly to YOUR part of the country to see it with you.

That's it, that's the contest. Your prize is my bubbling, always-optimistic-sunshiny self in a theater seat next to you to see New Moon.

ok, fine. How about a goody package? Filled with fun?

Now for contest rules and disclaimers (in teeny tiny print and read really fast by a voice you can't understand):
You must comment to be entered. You can comment as many times as you wish, but since I can't even keep up with the whereabouts of a two-year old, I can't be bothered to keep track of how many times you commented. You will be counted as one.

Your name will be picked randomly by a highly sophisticated system you have come to expect from my highly sophisticated blog.

Seriously, don't pull out the air mattress for me because: A) I hardly know you, but I am sleeping in your bed, not on the floor--ok, that's just a joke, I have my own places to stay.
B) I haven't run ANY of this past the Hubby so truth is, this may just be for giggles.

BUT you WILL get a goody box from me. I don't have to get his ok for that, I'm the boss of me.
Some of the things in there:

There was a third box until somebody (that was supposed to be in bed sleeping)
crept into my room, opened it and put all of the candies in her play tea pot.

Maybe I will include a UK edition of New Moon. Or maybe I'll just moon you from the U.K.
Ok, now it's just getting silly (I need sleep).

Why are you still reading? Shouldn't you be gathering tourist information packs about now?

  1. OMG!!!! i am so in!!!! please please please just book the flight!!! here's why -

we live in the middle of fourteen pristine acres of new england woods, bordered one side by a chrysanthemum farm and smelly season is over!!! :)

you can have your own room with its big double bed and flowery comforter and high thread count cotton sheets AND bathroom with its own bath tub - and LOCK!!! no one will bother you, no one will disturb you and no one will bang on the door. i promise :).

my girls are ardent twilight fans and when you got tired of talking to me about more mundane things like motherhood and marriage, you'll totally enjoy their company. i think i can even guarantee that they won't spill anything on you, and if they do spill, they will clean it up themselves :).

  2. J! What fun! You need to come to Tulsa. Why? Because I live here! Duh. :)

Seriously - we're in the middle of the country, so if you're here others can get off their duffs and come to visit.

We have nice theaters five minutes in either direction from the house, including an IMAX.

Maybelline will be in line for first night/first showing. She'll do all the line standing for us. Heh.

We have the Philbrook museum, the Gilcrease, which is the world's foremost cowboy museum (squeal! Cowboy art!), a nice aquarium down the road.

You and Maybelline can sing together.

I saved the big guns for last. Fred and Bessie are home! They'd LOVE to see you!

Either way, the prize package sounds like fun. And I'm saving up for your possible visit stateside where ever you land.

  3. What a brilliant idea!

I live on the outskirts of the big fat city of Houston, complete with Museums, LOTS of art galleries, a beach about an hour away...let's not forget the Art Car Museum, The Orange Show (just ask, I will tell you), FABULOUS restaurants, your own room, with its own bathroom AND a DO NOT DISTURB sign, complete with lots of lotions and potions to make your bath time more splendid; you can learn a trade whilst here (I will give you one FULL day of pottery lessons ~ & mail your finished pieces to you). You can eat what ever you want, whenever you want...Pale Rider and I are both kickass cooks (just sayin'); no cartoons!, 5 4-legged critters to snuggle with (3 cats ~ 1 being a secret CIA agent ~ and 2 mini-rabbits...PLEASE tell me you are not allergic to critters!); you can also participate in an "Exquisite Corpse" party (these ARE SO COOL), which will be held in your honor. Your own phone and laptop as well (Pale Rider is a techy-geek ~ we have lots of these things all over the place).

It is VERY quiet in our neighborhood...we are surrounded by empty lots.

Wherever you choose to go, I know you will have a wonderful time!

This is an exciting contest...I can't wait to see how it plays out!

    Peace and Blessings...

  4. HA! Well, I don't even know if this movie will come to my little town---so much of the time we have to drive elsewhere because the theater here is very small, and we don't have a lot of options. We might have to drive half an hour or maybe an hour away just to see it!

I could make us pancakes for breakfast though, and we could go for a walk in the park. ha ha ha! I hear you packing your bag already.

Here's the real kicker though, I haven't even seen the first one, so you'd probably spend the whole time having to explain to me what is going on while you are trying to watch this one.

Have I convinced you yet? I could throw popcorn in your hair and spill my pop on the floor at the theater to make you feel right at home so you wouldn't miss Ky while you are here. HA HA HA HA HA!

Somehow I don't think I'm going to win this contest. Hope you do get to see it though. This post made me laugh. Hope you have a great day! :D

  5. YAY!!! Come to Connecticut! I am going to have lots of empty rooms here soon. And I live thisclose to NYC so we can go have fun there as well!

YAY! Jeri is coming to play!

  6. HAHAHA. You got me to emerge from my place of hiding under my rock. Only for you, beloved Ms J. I've seriously already got plans to see it with two other bloggy peeps, although now that I'm mostly retired, I guess they are just friend types in Houston for opening night. I saw another person up there^ was also from Houston - so join the big lot of us. I miss your sarcastic self, punkin.

    ReplyDelete
  7. OH, and why you should come to Houston? The biggest factor will be that while it's below freezing on Nov 20th in Blimey, in Houston it will most likely be in the 60s. Wanna break from frigid temps? Look no further.

  8. Dude. I live in New Orleans AND I have a guest room. Need I say more?

OK... how about excellent food, excellent music, really cool places to hang out, interesting architecture AND the piece de resistance... the VAMPIRE tour of the French Quarter.

    come on down....

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh, come on! You know you want to come to Los Angeles to watch New Moon with ME! I've got that Twilight mojo and you might just get a chance to see a Twilight actor while you're here! Plus we have a really nice theater where you can pre-purchase your seat, saving you tons of time that you don't have to wait in line before the movie. We'd have a blast!

  10. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECAUSE!

    It's destiny.

That's all I need to say about it.

  11. Hello, Memphis?!

We've got Elvis, barbecue, a loooong, muddy river named Mississippi (which is so fun to type), Beale Street (think a neverending music and food-fest), Broadway shows, and did I mention Elvis? Ooh, and pandas!

    Come, come to Memphis!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Okay, here's why you need to visit me on November 20 -- to console me because I won't be able to see it until it comes out on DVD!!! I need you! Maybe we can find a theater that is showing it dubbed in French or Arabic. You have six months to brush up on those languages! We do, however, have a nice guest room, with its own bathroom. And I think I might be among the cheapest destinations if you can find a Ryan Air flight. Come on, doesn't a pity party sound like way more fun than going to see the movie? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  13. ok... so here is the thing... I am in Canada. And I don't even know if you have EVER been to Canada. But you SHOULD visit Canada because it is awesome. And I am super cool. And I live in the middle of freaking nowhere SO you would ALSO get a bonus long car ride in a van full of my kids too!! And then, to top it all off, we would have to take ANOTHER long car ride (this time I will leave the kids with hubby) to find the nearest theatre and watch the movie.

Of a book I've never read.

But am totally willing to read and watch if it means you will visit me in my exotic locale :) And I promise to show you all manner of Canadian touristy type stuff... like the RoyalCanadianMountedPolice and Moose and big trees and what not.

And you definitely wouldn't miss your kids since you could have plenty of fun with MINE while you are here :)

Besides, I am totally your long-lost not related at all in any way twin and we should definitely get the chance to have tea someday!

  14. You wouldn't need to book a flight to go to the movies with me. And if you need to bring Miss Ky, she and Peaches can play before being looked after by a fabulous babysitter.

I drove past your house (that is I went to Norfolk) this week. It'll take you three hours. What's stopping you?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well I'd say come hang out and see it with me BUT well I wouldnt make anyone come here on purpose ... LOL ... But if you pick me I'll be SUPER EXCITED and ask the town to maybe clean up a bit and build something cool in your honor ... but dont hold your breath I heard it took an act of God to get the Lowes built here.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well of course I want you to come here, but I ain't selling it. come here to see me. Yes, you can sleep in my bed in that pretty yellow room. We can relax sip tea, put our feet up and eat. Yeah I'll go to the movie too.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well. I have two teenage girls who can give Miss Ky a run for her money. Yes, bring her. I love her. Bring the boys too. My hubby has no boys except our goofy boy dog, and he speaks football, as in soccer. Does it matter where I live?

    ReplyDelete
  18. OMG!!! Pick me!!! If you come here, I can take you to the Civil War's Stones River Battlefield. Who am I kidding??? We can do that, but I think we'd both rather see New Moon at least three times.

We can see a triple feature of the same movie...back to back to back! What a day! I don't know about you, but there's always something I've missed the first time that I'll catch the second or I'll catch it the third time.

  19. Seriously! I live on the Gulf Coast of Florida, it's still 70
degrees here in November, no cold weather to speak of until at least Jan or Feb. And, no tourist in the off season.. sunshine, warmth, wide open spaces, sugar white beaches... I'm telling you, you wouldn't want to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Because you shouldn't go on any longer without paying a visit to good old Northern AZ.

And because I still haven't read the books, so you can explain everything to me.

And because I need a break from MY 2 year old.

    That's why.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Because I love you soooooo much!!! You must come to Vegas. Imagine all the fun you can have here in sin city, the city that never sleeps, the hotter than Hades in the shade city I love to hate....., it's fairly close to your son right??????, come on, I'll even spring for the movie tickets and popcorn and all the chocolate you can eat. Oh, and it will be beautiful here in November-probably 70's temperature wise.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hahaha!!!!
    Well...
While you are escaping from your beautiful children you could come and stay with me and MY beautiful children. And I will have a newborn! Sure, you probably won't get any sleep through the wailing and crying, but newborns are cute. Ya know?
And, oh yeah. We aren't sure where we may be living at the time so you could have your pick of either our futon in our current basement or a pullout sofa in our imaginary library room.
Sure the weather in Wisconsin is not at its best that time of year, but who cares? Snow is fun, right? And we'll have plenty of extra blanket for you to use in our current basement or you could curl up in front of our imaginary fireplace in our new house. Lovely!
But, I truly do make some good cookies, and I would make a ton for you and I to sneak into the theater (if it isn't snowed out). Sound like fun???

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hmmm, I'm not sure what I have to offer by way of accommadations, but I CAN offer you some fantastic Kansas City barbecue, fun shopping, and sweltering temperatures. Sounds fun, doesn't it? :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. You all are so generous!! But seriously, room and board not necessary-- I'm looking for good company and sights (and three showings of New Moon are just fine because I will BE KID FREE) :-)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Of course, no one really WANTS to come to West Texas. So, I say we can meet up in Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, or Houston and get a huge & elegant hotel room that has outrageously good room service and we can go to the movies somewhere there... for days & days if you want.

But if we pick Austin then we can go see it at The Alamo Draft House and eat Love At First Bite Pizza and sip wine or guzzle Coronas while we watch the movie.

Of course, the Alamo has many other culinary offerings, but the pizza goes so well with the movie. Maybe they will even have some Vampire wine.

That's all I've got, my faraway friend. But, it sure would be a hoot!

  26. You need to read my email.

But also--after reading all this--I realize that i wouldn't win anyways!! Holy lotsofpeoplewithlotsmoreinterestingthingstodoandnicerplacestostaythanme BATMAN!!
But you just need to know that none of these people could want you to come visit more than me but their having actually read Twilight and seen the other movies would probably tip the scales in their favor.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ooooh! me me ME ME ME ME ME!!! I am TOTALLY in!

But I have my own ideas for your consideration. Not that you wouldn't be welcome at my house, of course, because you ARE ... but I kinda like the idea of us showing up at some fabulous tourist spot JUST to see this movie!

New York is a favorite of mine, and Miss Connecticut has LOTS of empty rooms soon to be available, she says ... let's stay at HER house and see the East coast!!!

Or ... we can go to L.A. and see it at the MANN'S CHINESE THEATER ... where the celebrities go! And of course there is plenty of sight seeing out here ... truth is I just don't know what those sights are since I am not a tourist I LIVE HERE. lol. But I will do my research if you pick me. I'd love to have you come to my house.

NEW MOON NEW MOON NEW MOON!!!!

  28. We have so much in common. Plus Micah is here. Need I say more? Wait - why are you leaving? Really, he won't be your responsibility! Have I mentioned that I live next door to this?

  30. I'm a late comer, hope the contest is still open.

Why you should fly to my part of the country to see New Moon?

I live in Southern California. I used to live 6 miles from the beach and although I now live 45 minutes from it, we can get a suite along the beach with a balcony that looks onto the beach. It will be in November, often a warm month here. We've had to cook Thanksgiving turkey with our air conditioner on because its been 90 degrees some days on Thanksgiving. And it is usually sunny in November, short-sleeve weather. A perfect time to visit to view this movie.

    cute contest and cute blog!

    betty
