What are You Saying?

We have a few sayings in our house.

One is "Eternal Perspective" (I guess it's more of a chant really, when the kids have driven us to the edge).

The other is "Hallelujah" (which has to be done in song and has the best effect when the children have pushed us over the edge).

When receiving a certain look from a child, my husband and I will look at one another and say, "Yep, that's the one that will kill us in our sleep".

I frequently say "I want to go home", which is pathetic really because when you're military, you don't really have a home.

With all of that acknowledged,

I have spent some time today pondering how come we've been so blessed. Even though I have spent the last few months looking up at Heaven with the words "WHY?" on my lips when things haven't gone like I would've liked them to, I am grateful for days like these when the "Why?" is in a grateful tone.

Today's saying in our house, "Thank you."

Happy Day Before The Night Before Christmas everyone!

  1. I loved this post. What a great place to be in right before Christmas!

I laughed out loud at the "this one is going to kill us in our sleep" line.

  2. That is wonderful! There have been moments, more lately, that I have also wondered why things are going so well in my life. Thanks for this reminder.

  6. The one consistent phrase we have at house is one my son came up with when he was about two -- "Sweet Awesome!" We've used it ever since to describe, well, pretty much everything that's sweet awesome -- like Christmas.

Oh, and happy day before the day before the day before the day after the day after the night before Christmas, right back at ya!

  11. Hello J
    Nice to make your acquaintance.

This was a fun post and an important one as well.

Being grateful is such an important word to remember and to give thanks.

One of my favourite saying is:
"Are we there yet"? I say it to the young ones now, before they say it!

Look forward to following your blog in 2009.

    Best wishes
    Peggy

  12. Yep, no home with the military. And then when the man is gone, it's like what home you have is half gone. I don't like it either.

  13. We're saying the same thing this year. Even though this year has been so tight, we have also been blessed so much. So, yes, thank you is a big thing in our house right now.

Which reminds me that I need to sit down with the kids and write thank you notes. :)

  14. Gratitude. In the face of IT ALL gratitude because even then there is so much beauty. I hope I can hold onto this gratitude always, always, always, even though fear flutters deep just a little.

I imagine you had a wonderful and rich Christmas. I hope this is so.
