baby it's cold outside

I'm cold.

Can you believe this, I have no heat. I'm not making this streak of bad luck up, I seriously have no heat now. On my second day of no heat in my house.
Apparently the lack of hot water was my clue that the central heating was on it's last leg. Who'da guessed? Obviously not me.

On another note: Base Housing called and gave me a butt-chewing for paying my February rent. "Now that you paid February, there's no way you'll see your deposit again-- you were supposed to release the deposit to pay Feb's rent because that was the only way you were going to get your deposit back...".
Funny, THAT would've been good information to pass on at the same time you were telling me not to pay the rent-going against every moral fiber in my body. I would've understood it in those terms.
She's pretty fed up with me and was quite agreeable that my next option might be to move back to the states.

Still, I have more important things to think about.

Like how I am cold and that makes for difficult typing. Yesterday I was told the heating guy (who happens to be the guy who turned off my broken hot water tap in the kitchen ten days ago never to return) is supposed to be here "Either tonight or first thing tomorrow". Did you see on the news our record snowfall? That closed schools and crippled airports? That white stuff is cold. We could sleep next to the aga I guess.

I'm rambling. Cold does that to a brain. Two more days until the court hearing. I'm three days away from the end of an incredible amount of stress, or three days closer to being homeless. Two days for my whinging posts to find another subject.

Addendum: Central Heating guy was here (it's morning now-- didn't feel like eight hours since you started reading, did it?). He put a new program box up, but now I have to wait for the certified electrician to come wire it in. I may have heat by tonight. Who HOO!!

The things people take for granted...
What are you enjoying today that you would miss terribly if it were gone?

  2. I can't believe what is happening to you. First of all the heating...are you using local workmen, cos if you are I am not surprised at the treatment you are receiving. I must have missed the post about a court hearing, what's going on? Are you on the base? Isnt that their responsibility?
I am soooo sorry, no-one should be without heating in this cold weather. I do hope you get it sorted soon. I'd have you here but JP goes around switching things off and I follow switching them on again.

  6. Oh geez! No heat sounds awful. I hope everything gets powered up and running soon. We have a ton of snow here as well. I can't even imagine.

  7. we were without heat and water wirecently. It was awful - I'm not sure what's worse, apart from losing the roof over your head.

Right now - I'm completely happy with my winter coats and boots. I'd be sorry to not have those.

  8. i'm sure there's a lesson somewhere in this whole "you want the house so badly and then you get it and it sucks" story, but I imagine it will take several years (decades?) to appreciate it

  11. Wow, you sure have been going through a LOT lately. I'm so sorry.

In regards to what I would miss if it were gone. Hubby is #1 on that list, but he is closely followed by Kindle. =)

  12. Gosh, is there anything else which could go wrong for you? Hope your heating is back on by now. Do you have an immersion heater in the airing cupboard for hot water?

I think that not having power is the worst thing to be without as so many other things are dependent on it.

  13. Modern amenities. I had lunch today with a friend who just came back from a medical mission to Mali. Her stories made me thoroughly grateful for the incredible, but easily taken for granted, blessings around me. Running water. Indoor TOILETS (rather than holes in the ground). Plenty of clothing for my kids. Washer and dryer. Free public school (even if I don't always agree with how they do things). America the Land of Opportunity.

I hope you get heat soon. And also that this fiasco with the house will end the way you want it to. Good luck.

  14. I would miss your blog.

I couldn't help you if I was there, but I'd offer you moral support!

I hope you have heat by the time you read this (how far ahead of me are you?)

Do thoughts of Arizona make you warm? If so, go that route. If they just make you homesick, forget I said anything. I have a fever, and I'm delirious. You can't believe anything I say.

I REALLY hope things are looking up soon. You have my prayers.

  17. Unbelievable! No heat on top of everything else?!

All our local schools are closed today on account of the snow, so I know how cold it is.

  19. You poor thing. I'd miss heat and electricity and TV and internet. I'd go on a killing spree if those things were missing.

  20. I promise it wasn't me who said, "Could it get any worse??!!"

I would miss FOOD--yeah--can you say ISSUES??!!

  21. Oh man, I feel for ya and hope things look up soon. I think, for me, as long as we have our health we have our wealth.

  22. I'm sorry for your cold. I know it's hard to bear. It was -30 here again today and we've just a little better than no heat. My washing machine is frozen again. And I needed gloves to type this morning but could only find two lefts. Do you know how hard it is to type with two left gloves?

  23. I hope you did end up having heat. Sending you warm wishes! It's been raining hard all day here. It hardly ever rains here, so I'm trying to enjoy it.

  24. Oh my....is it a snow cave in there??!! Does this kind of crap happen when hubby is home?? If not this is so not right... Hugs though...
