A Lesson in Patience

She didn't nap today. Even though she desperately needed one.

You see, she can climb in and out of her crib, and she's afraid she might miss something...

like other kids' lego creations (you have to destroy them at exactly the right moment),

the stack of newly laundered and folded clothes placed outside the bedroom door (while she "slept") needed trying on again to check for shrinkage,

different food may have entered the pantry or the refrigerator (and it's important to check often).

Then there's the preparation for an American Idol audition...

Don't let the smile fool you.
An overtired toddler WILL morph into a whiny, crying mess every 20 minutes or so.

Calgon anyone?

  2. Hmmmmm. She is certainly good at fooling the camera, isn't she? I am so sorry that she isn't napping! I just caught up on your posts and I am really happy that you can now unpack and that you have heat! YEAH!

The mother-in-law issue? Wow - yours sounds like quite a treat. Mine doesn't know what to do with me but does include my name on cards and packages!

  11. I couldn't handle this anymore no matter how cute. I'd swat her hiney and put her back in the bed. I used to tell my daughter to just lay there awake but not to get up, because mommie needed the rest. Yeah it might be a grumpy response but it worked.

  16. Yes, my 4yo and 6yo do that, too. At least she rewards you with that beautiful smile. Though I know from experience that sometimes it's easy to miss that when you're frustrated. Hang in there.

But I know that whiny, crying mess well. For their own preservation it's interspersed with those lovely giggling smiles.
