The Party's Over. Now Go Home.

I'm breaking my promise to keep away from political posts... sue me.
Actually, I thought this would be better to say now instead of saying it
after the elections. It may seem more sincere.

Fast Forward please to November with me:

First of all, I'd like to congratulate the next President of the U.S., and if he was your man of choice, congratulations to you too. I can safely say that my candidate did not win this campaign. My candidate didn't make it to the conventions. I was forced to research who I would be the least unhappy to vote into the position and made my choice believing he was the right person for the job. Please don't think I am slamming the candidate you proudly stood for, I am just saying neither man was my first choice.

Now that all is said and done, can we bring out the sweepers and clean up the mess? Can we all get behind the man who is leading our country and stand as a nation united?

We don't have to like our president. We don't have to agree with him. But we, as a nation need to show a unity to the rest of the world.
Let's put the mud back outside for the kids to make pies in.
Let's stop slinging nastiness at the wives, the VP choices and children of the candidates -- oh, and each other.

If you have issues with the new President of the United States, handle it like a grown up. Take that wonderful blogging talent you have and write your Congressman/woman. Write your Senator. Write him. Make your voice heard.

May I remind you...

Then join hand in hand, brave Americans all, By uniting we stand, by dividing we fall; In so righteous a cause let us hope to succeed, For heaven approves of each generous deed. -- The Liberty Song by John Dickenson, 1768

We're a great nation, now let's act like it.

God Bless America!

  2. there's this thing that I envy ALL Americans or Canadians, there's freedom of speech...unlike over at my side, we get JAILED for speaking 'badly' of our government, not even mentioning the PRESIDENT himself...
NOT allowed even on our OWN blog space.... *sigh*

  3. Wow. What a great post! I wholeheartedly agree. (and neither man was my first choice either)

Maybe you should post this again after the election, just as a reminder.

  4. Thank you. That needs to be said more frequently. We need to realize that we're one of the most blessed nations in the world. We get to choose our leader, and that leadership changes every 4 years. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but we have choices. If living with the "wrong" candidate is so bad, feel free to move for the next 4 years.

    Okay, end rant.

  5. That's a big amen! I wish that all parties would carrry themselves with the dignity of the office and quit slinging mud.

For me it's the issues, where do they stand on the issues?

Sorry about my sloppy post it got edited this morning, thanks for your comment.

  6. So sad...lost a long comment.

I do like your sentiment. I think I know what you're after and solidarity is important. But this is what I can't abide, we've elected a government that I believe needs constant supervision. I can't give it my blanket support. I think it's dangerous to give any government our total support.

In Canada our Prime Ministers are rarely revered. They are simply one of us - representing us. They're one dude amongst the rest of us dudes, fallible. If we're really lucky they'll have our best interests at heart.

  7. Well said indeed! Can I link to your post on 11/5?

    Blessings, Whitney

  8. Hallelujah!!!!!!

I don't think you are talking about a "blanket support" for our government at all. I think you are talking about respect. Something every human being deserves especially one who is doing their best at a very difficult job.

No matter how hard people have bashed Bush (and all my thoughts on him are not positive either) you have to admit that he has had one of the most DIFFICULT presidencies in American history. Maybe even since Roosevelt. A terrorist attack, natural disasters that led to more disaster, war, economic collapse. And no, it was not all his fault, though some would love us to believe that.

ANYWAY, I agree. Let's show some respect!

  9. Now wait a second...you're saying my guy isn't going to win every time, and I need to learn to accept that? You're saying that this whole "America" thing might work better if we tried concentrating on the things that we have in common, rather than the things that we disagree on?
    It's crazy but it...just...might...work.

Incidentally, my guy didn't make it through the primaries either -- and I think people are looking differently at him these days.

  10. ooooo---you're on a roll jeri! :)
i actually am with you: i'm not too happy with either of the candidates and the guy i would have voted for, obviously didn't make it. in fact every time i think about voting, i know who i'm going to vote for, but i still kind of feel a little anxious over the whole thing b/c i'm not sure about him either....eck!
i think that i'm going to go this week and do early voting in hopes of missing long lines (we'll see!)

  11. Surely we're in for a wild ride regardless of who ends up with the tiller in hand, so let's be sensible and hang onto each other and PRAY! Thanks for calling everyone to attention. Let's keep our priorities straight.

Now can you order us to refrain from reading the "fiction" they pass off as news until this beauty contest is over???? Hey, better yet, will you be the J REPORT and keep us informed? I'd much rather come to you for the news -- I'll bring the tea and a come for a dose of chuckle. )If laughter is medicine maybe a chuckle is a vitamin, ya think?) ; )

  13. Well written post. Perhaps if everyone works together, more will be accomplished. Let's just hope the right things are accomplished.

  14. And the day after the election I'm sure the media will already be gearing up for 2012. *Sigh*

  15. I have been so busy feeling sick to my stomach about the state of the union that I hadn't thought of this before. I like it!! Makes me fell much more positive and pro-active--not so helpless. Thanx for going public!!

  16. That was some food for thought, thanks. I am with you with the choices, and I cannot believe how polarizing this election has been. I have never been as nervous to speak about issues I have with either candidate for fear of being jumped down my throat. I will be very happy when it is all over and the mudslinging is done. I was kind of wondering how it was being covered in other countries.

  17. I think you hit on what worries me the most right now. I'm really concerned that we aren't going to get past all of this and things are just going to get worse.

    Great post!

  18. Sorry but I might cry if one of the people are elected...I know...but...I can't help it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey, I didn't say we couldn't/woudn't cry... I may cry with either actually (oh, already did that when my choice was no longer an option).

  20. I couldn't agree more. My candidate didn't get nominated, either. The good news is that God is still in control, and always will be.

  21. What a nice thought. And I truthfully, honestly have no idea why this is so difficult for people. NO idea.
